A Bio About Roger
As you saw on the first page, this site is about "Roger" and people like him. He is nine years old and lives in Ivory Coast (seen on map as Cote de Ivoirie). He was forced to fight in one of the civil wars at Ivory Coast. Some other kids forced to fight had to do some things that would scar grown adults for life. Some had to watch as the same army they were forced to join skinned there parents alive. Kids were raped and then forced to rape others. If they did not comply they would be beat or killed. After kids joind the army they were forced to carry ammunition onto the battle field or have to actully fight and kill the other side. There were over 15,000 children fighting. In all the chaos over 340,000 kids were left without parental care. The sad part is that these kids are just like us. Roger, just like most American kids, loves to play football. He has a favorite food - rice and tomatoes. When he grows up he wants to be a teacher. There's a catch though. When he comes home after being bullied by kids who are better than him at football, he has no parents to tell him they love him no matter what. He has no parents that can make his favorite meal as a sign that they love him. When he comes home with a good grade at school that will help him on his way to be a doctor no one is there to tell him how proud they are. Yet somehow Roger and kids in the same boat as him continue. They strive on thinking of how to make things better. Us in America, with every thing we take for granted would just stop. We would give up and die. These kids are stronger and braver than most adults in america.
Here is a informative story about Roger and people alike.
INFORMATIVE DRAFT
Intro: In 2004 kids in America worried about getting the new bored games or the new Sky-wars movies. In 2004 kids in Liberia/Ivory Coast worried about getting beat by their army commanders or what family they had to ruin next or whether or not they will be allowed to eat this time. These are just some of the things that these kids had to worry about.
Food: Imagine eating mud cakes (cake shaped pieces of mud) just to keep your stomach from dissolving itself. That’s daily life for kids in the Liberia/ Ivory Coast area. 15% (2,976,000) of children under the age of 5 in this area suffer from malnutrition. That’s more kids than there is people in Arkansas. And that’s only children under 5. It’s near un-human to think about that and not feel any emotion.
Clean Water: The clean water source in Africa is at an all-time low. Kids are dying at an alarmingly increasing rate due to Diarrhoea. Diarrhoea, is disease in which you have an un-healthy amount of diarrhea leading to dehydration. Few companies are helping to give water to children in Africa, so they need all the donations they can get. Every year 109,500 kids die in Africa from dehydration.
Shelter: Shelter is a major need for kids in this area. Some kids if there lucky live in a bathroom sized shack. Some don’t even have parents. Kids have to work to get food for themselves and the people they live with. There shelter can have an impact on their health. A good shelter will keep out rain which will make it warmer.
In the end children need the three basic needs that we take for granite today. The need food so they don’t starve. Water so they don’t get dehydrated. And lastly shelter so they have a place to stay and feel safe
